Kent Barker, Founder/President

Our Mission

The mission of BRATS is to increase awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through the enjoyment of participating in triathlons and swimming.  An important aspect of BRATS is promoting these sports to the youth of our communities.

Coach Kent Barker
Coach Kent is a USAT Certified Coach, USA Cycling Certified Coach, a Certified Spinning Instructor and an experienced triathlete.  He retired from the US Air Force after 21 years of service in March of 2007.  Coach Kent has raced and finished the Ironman World Championship in Kona Hawaii, Ironman Wisconsin, Ironman Louisville, The Great Floridian, multiple
half-
Ironmans, olympics, and sprint triathlons.  He has made the podium in several races including a second place finish in the military division during The Great Floridian.  His other accomplishments include a 3:00:02 marathon at the Marine Corps Marathon and a 34:26 10K in the Charleston, WV Moses 10K.

While in the Air Force Kent was lucky enough to fly the B-52, F/EF-111s, T-38, and T37.  His tours included two tours in Desert Storm/Shield, 1 year remote in Korea, and 7 years in the Pentagon and National Guard Bureau.  His military honors include: Air Medal x 4, Aerial Achievement Medal x 2, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southeast Asia Service Medal and others.

Kent graduated as a Distinguished Graduate of Officer Training School, Squadron Officer School, and Pilot Training and also won the Top Gun Award at F-111 training.

He attended Fairmont State College participating on the Cross-Country and Tennis Team.  Kent grew up in Charleston, WV.

Coach Kent resides in Bristow
, VA with his wife Kim and daughter Brittany, both of whom are avid triathletes, swimmers, and runners.
